Q: What is HOMEfix?
A: HOMEfix is a home remodeling, repair, and roofing company in Colorado Springs.
Q: When did you know that you wanted to start HOMEfix?
A: When I was 6 years old. My dad and grandpa were both contractors and I grew up building stuff on my grandparent’s acreage. They had 80 acres in Kansas and I used to build forts and all sorts of fun stuff back then and that grew to building furniture throughout college and shortly after that I decided that I needed to be in construction.
Q: What was it like when you first got started?
A: Very difficult. Wearing every hat, getting the work done, doing all of the marketing, generating sales, it was very difficult.
Q: Was it just you?
A: It was just me, for a little bit. 2 years into it I hired my first employee and we’ve slowly grown the team from there.
Q: Why does HOMEfix exist?
A: HOMEfix exists to Improve Homes and Change Lives. That’s always been ingrained inside me somewhere, I’ve been passionate about that mission but recently I’ve decided to articulate it and that’s why we exist. We want to improve homes through quality, simplicity, and speed. Those are 3 things that our customers care about and that we care about. We want to change lives through “moments of impact”. We want to try to touch people in a special way when we’re in their home. We do this by performing a level of service that they don’t get from a lot of other contractors.
Q: What’s your favorite part of your job?
A: I love leadership development. I love the team of guys that I get to work with, coming alongside them, working together with them, solving problems, that part I love. I also love serving people. When we perform work for someone and they’re satisfied at the end there’s nothing more satisfactory. Being able to say look what the hands of our team have created and given them a new home to enjoy and improve their lives in that way.
Q: What sage wisdom do you have for someone thinking about starting their own business?
A: Oh man. Don’t take it lightly. That’s a big decision. Other than raising children, I think its the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It’s a big decision, it’s a big step but I would say:
- Trust the Lord. The grace of God has been throughout my entire story so I gotta give him the glory.
- Find a mentor. Find someone that can coach you.
- Find a good accountant to keep you out of prison.
- Do the right thing at all times.
Q: Where is HOMEfix headed?
A: We would love to be the #1 remodeling contractor in Colorado Springs.
Q: Anything else you want to add?
A: I’m excited to see what God does through our efforts and hard work and how lives are changed.
