HOMEfix’s Guide to Navigating Your Home Renovation
Be ready for the unexpected – remodeling often throws curveballs, so a little flexibility can go a long way. We give every remodeling customer a "What to Expect" letter before the project begins. In this letter we describe what can go wrong and what they can expect from us if/when it does:
Here’s a list of things that can go wrong in construction:
- Materials arrive damaged or incorrect
- Delays due to weather, material delivery, and scheduling conflicts
- Additional damages that are not visible until the shingles are torn off
- Unknown obstacles that were not reasonably foreseen during the scope review
Here’s what you can expect from us:
- We will plan and prepare as much as possible to avoid any and all mistakes
- We will take ownership of our mistakes and try to rectify them as quickly as possible
- We will strive to clean your property as thoroughly as possible when the roof is complete
- We will stand behind our 5-Year Roof Warranty
Create Your Sanctuary
During a remodel, your home can turn into a construction zone. So, set up a cozy corner or a whole separate area where you can escape the chaos. If the project is extensive, you might need to temporarily relocate. In fact, relocating not only eliminates extra stress, but it allows to often get the project done even faster. Either way, make sure your temporary space is comfortable and functional, so you can stay sane amidst the dust and noise.
Keep the Lines Open with Your Champion
Communication is key, folks! Stay in touch with your HOMEfix Champion (project manager) regularly. Set up check-ins to review progress, address any concerns, and make adjustments as needed. A good contractor will keep you in the loop, but don’t hesitate to speak up if something isn’t sitting right with you. Remember, this is your home, and your vision should guide the project. We're here to serve.
Embrace the Mess
We mask everything off and do our best to clean up every day, but let’s face it—remodeling can be messy. Dust will settle on every surface, and your routine might be upended. Embrace the chaos with a sense of humor and practicality. Cover your furniture in the rest of the house, seal off the work zones, and don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s all part of the process, and soon enough, you’ll have a brand-new space to enjoy.
Stay Organized and Keep Track
Keep all your important documents, contracts, and design plans neatly organized. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the moving parts, so having everything in one place will help you stay on top of things. Use a checklist and timeline to track progress and make sure everything’s moving as planned.
Manage Stress Like a Pro
Remodeling can be a high-stress endeavor. To keep your stress levels in check, find activities that help you unwind, whether it’s a daily jog, meditation, or just a quiet cup of coffee. It’s important to take care of yourself during this hectic time, so you don’t let the pressure get to you.
Trust Your Instincts, but Don’t Overthink
Stay informed about the progress of your remodel, but avoid getting bogged down by over-researching or second-guessing every decision. Trust the expertise of HOMEfix. Trust the experience and care of your Champion. Trust the decisions you made during the material process with the consultation of our interior designer. It’s easy to get caught up in the details, but sometimes, you just need to let things roll and trust the process. It's gonna be great.
Celebrate the Wins
Remodeling is a big deal, and it’s important to recognize and celebrate the milestones. Whether it’s the completion of a major phase or just finding the perfect tile, take a moment to pat yourself on the back. Acknowledge the hard work that’s gone into the project and enjoy the progress you’ve made.
Prepare for the Big Reveal
As your remodel nears completion, start gearing up for the final reveal. Plan a little celebration or simply take time to admire the transformation. It’s the payoff for all your hard work and patience, and it’s worth savoring every moment of it.
