HOMEfix's Comprehensive Hail Damage Guide To Protecting Your Investment
Colorado Springs, we know that hailstorms can leave your roof looking like Swiss cheese. It’s not just an eyesore, it's a potential gateway for leaks, mold, and structural damage.
Asphalt shingles, the most common roof type, can suffer from dents, cracks, granule loss, and even puncture holes. Metal roofs, while more durable, can develop dents and scratches that compromise their protective coating and lead to rust. Wood shakes and tiles can crack, split, or break, leaving your home vulnerable to leaks. Even minor hail damage can shorten your roof's lifespan and lead to costly repairs down the line.
And it's not just hail you need to worry about! The strong winds that often accompany hailstorms can rip off shingles, loosen flashing, and even cause structural damage to your roof. Don't worry, though, because HOMEfix is here to guide you through the hail damage repair process and get your roof back in tip-top shape.
Hail Damage Inspection
Our experienced team will conduct a thorough inspection of your roof, looking for any signs of hail damage, including dents, cracks, or missing shingles. We'll also check for any potential leaks or damage to your attic or ceilings. Hail damage isn't always visible from the ground so we will show you photos of what we find.
The Plan of Action
Once we've assessed the damage, we'll recommend the best course of action for your roof. If the damage is minor, we might suggest repairs to specific areas. But if the hail damage is extensive, a full roof replacement might be the most cost-effective and long-lasting solution. We will help you go through the insurance claim process and ensure that you get the most out of your claim. We'll inspect your entire property for hail damage from your windows to your fence and if we find anything that the insurance adjuster missed, we will go to bat for you with insurance to get everything added to the claim. Then we will complete those repairs, too!
What to Expect
We understand that a roof replacement can be a big undertaking, but we're here to make it as smooth and stress-free as possible. Here's what you can expect:
Before the Build:
- You'll receive a call from our office 3-5 days before material delivery and the build date.
- Weather permitting, the roof will be built within 10 days of material delivery.
- We'll keep you informed about any delays due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
What You Need to Do:
- Remove vehicles from the driveway and garage the night before material delivery and build dates.
- Remove any items from walls or shelves that might shake loose or easily tip over.
- Remove valuable or fragile items from the exterior perimeter of your home.
- Cover floors or furniture under skylights to protect against debris.
- Unlock side gates for crew access to the backyard.
- Keep pets inside or off the property.
Special Considerations:
- Consider relocating satellite dishes to the side of the house to avoid service disruptions.
- Inform us if your home has exposed rafters so we can use shorter nails.
- Submit the necessary HOA paperwork before construction and let us know if we need to wait for approval.
Day of the Build:
- Keep children and pets inside or away from the home during construction.
- Keep your phone on and remain available in case we need to contact you.
- We'll clear debris before the end of the day, but exercise caution when walking the property as some small debris may remain. Contact us if you need additional cleanup.
Unavoidable Damages:
- The weight and vibrations of the work may cause existing cracks to appear larger, but this is not structural damage.
- Siding or stucco may have chipped paint or smudges, particularly at roof-to-wall transitions.
- Detached skylights may cause interior damage to paint, drywall, and caulk.
- Falling debris may leave scuffs or tar residue on surfaces.
After the Build:
- We'll remove excess materials promptly.
- Check your electrical panel and furnace operation after work is complete.
- Your satellite dish may need realignment.
- We'll conduct a Quality Control walk-through with you.
- We'll work with your insurance company for supplements and fund release.
